Director of Community Service: Malik Thornton (he/him/his)

Malik is a lifelong resident of East County. He founded the East East County Young Democrats and chairs SDCYD’s East County Organizing Committee.

Malik is a student and currently serves as Community Engagement/Management Intern for the Office of San Diego City Councilmember Stephen Whitburn. He previously served as an intern for Ammar Campa-Najjar’s congressional campaign ad as a fellow of 360 Campaign Consulting/Planed Parenthood Votes.

Malik got involved in politics to help fight for proper representation and advocate for issues that East County cares about. His goals include advocating for progressive values, educating young voters, and increasing civic engagement in East County.

In his free time, Malik also leads the East County Community Group, focused on community cleanups in East County.
