Director of Community Service: Malachi Bielecki (he/him/his)

Born and raised on the East Coast, Malachi found his home in San Diego when he enrolled as a student at San Diego State University. Drawn to public policy from an early age, his commitment to pragmatic progressivism deepened in his new community, where he graduated with distinction in Public Administration.

He went on to support local nonprofits as a Grants Coordinator for the City of San Diego while earning a Master of Public Administration and Policy from American University. In his free time, Malachi is deeply engaged in civic life, serving in appointed and elected roles in various capacities within the Democratic party, and as a member of his neighborhood planning committee.

His passion for public service is grounded in an optimism that democratic representation, progressive policymaking, and effective governance can materially improve people’s lives. His policy interests center on urban issues – particularly housing – and on reinvigorating democracy in the face of authoritarian threats.

He believes Democrats must return to their roots as a labor party – calling people in rather than casting them out. To him, true American exceptionalism lies in the nation’s capacity for collective action to solve social ills. He views the debate between Abundance liberals and the populist left not as a conflict, but as an opportunity to build a more successful and resilient progressive movement.
